Title: Envy
Requested Element: Something where Clark and Lex don't hate each other, that they're happy at least at the moment.

Chloe envied Clark and Lex.

Even after all the weirdness in Smallville, they'd managed to keep their friendship close. And now they were all in Metropolis, she and Clark were college graduates and had landed entry level reporting positions at the Daily Planet, while Lex was administering the vastness of Luthorcorp. His father's death a few years ago had been difficult, and Chloe had always suspected that had been when he and Clark had got together, though she didn't know for sure and would never ask.

She wasn't sure if it was because she didn't want to stir up bad memories for Lex, or because she didn't want to hurt herself any more. It was hard enough having feelings for both men, knowing they were unavailable to her.

It was nights like tonight that she really envied them, though. She and Clark had gone to a murder scene. Young girl, seventeen at most, dressed in the clothes of a streetwalker. Just another runaway in the big city. Words that had gone into their report, like gunshot wound and killed instantly echoed in Chloe's mind and she just wanted someone to hold and to hold her.

But her two closest friends, one of whom truly understood, were probably in each other's arms right now. And she couldn't interrupt them just for her own silly emotions. So Chloe was sitting in front of the TV, not even aware of what flickered across the screen, drinking wine and trying to shut the demons out of her head.

It surprised her when the phone rang.

"Hello?"

"Chloe, it's me," Clark said. "Lex and I were wondering if you'd like to join us for dinner?"

It wasn't an unusual invitation, and Chloe knew what she really needed was company, even company that would inevitably break her heart, so she answered. "Yes, I'll be right over. Lex's?" They weren't officially living together yet, so it could have been Clark's apartment.

"Of course, see you in a few," Clark said, before hanging up.

Though she didn't believe in overdressing for these dinners, Chloe brushed her hair and put on a little makeup, as well as a nice pair of slacks and a blouse before leaving the house. The drive to Lex's apartment building was easier than it usually was and she was there sooner than she expected. Driving into the guest area, she smiled at the valet who took her car. "Thank you," she said, before walking to the elevator and hitting the button for Lex's penthouse. It fingerprinted her and the elevator started.

Clark was waiting for her when she stepped off the elevator and he caught her in a hug. Words were unnecessary, they'd both seen the girl earlier, and they'd both found it as difficult as each other had. "Hey," she whispered, pressing a soft kiss to his cheek.

"Hey," he said, leading her inside. "Want a drink?"

"Red wine, please, unless it doesn't go with what we're having," she answered.

"It will go perfectly," Lex said from the bar. "The cook's grilling steak and we're having mushroom salad. Good evening, Chloe."

"Good evening, Lex," she replied, taking the glass he offered her and sipping. "Oh, that's delicious," she said.

"Cabernet, and don't ask the price, you'll choke on it and that wouldn't do," Lex smiled. "How are you holding up? Clark sort of collapsed on me earlier, and when he said you were there too, I thought you could do with some moral support as well."

That surprised her. Not the part about Clark, but that it had been Lex's idea. "I'm… as okay as I can be," she said. "It's not like it's an unfamiliar situation. But I do appreciate the company. I didn't realise…" she trailed off.

"That you didn't have anyone right here you could call on but us?" Clark asked, moving close to her again. "Lex did."

"I'm used to not having many people to trust," Lex said, handing Clark a glass of wine. "But I know you two are different. And we couldn't leave Chloe alone."

"You will though," she said, before thinking.

"What?" Lex said, quietly.

"I'm sorry, forget I said anything," Chloe muttered, wishing the floor would open up.

"Tell us," Clark said, "please."

She decided she might as well. It couldn't hurt any more.

"I envy you. You have each other to come home to. I come home to an empty apartment and a TV and the most I have is fantasies of one or both of you," she says. "I know you're committed and I should never have said anything, but I'm sick of having half of you both."

Clark and Lex looked at each other, significantly. It was Clark who spoke.

"It's funny you should say that. Lex and I have been discussing the same thing. How you never seem to date, or go anywhere that isn't with us. We didn't know if it was for the reason we hoped… but it seems that it is."

"What did you hope for?" Chloe asked, softly.

"If maybe you cared for us as we care for you," Lex answered. "If you could even consider being with us. I mean, I'm not the greatest catch, except for my money…"

"Hush," Chloe said. "You're a sweet, kind man, who has been better to me in my life than I ever deserved. And that actually applies to both of you."

"I've done so many things to hurt you," Clark said, eyes shadowing. "It was never intentional…"

"I know, that's why I've always been able to forgive you," Chloe replied, moving to touch his hand.

That seemed to light a spark, and Clark lifted their hands to his mouth and kissed Chloe's softly. "So, you would be willing to take us both on?" he grins at her. "I know it's not the usual relationship…"

Chloe laughed, even as she shivered from the touch of Clark's lips. "Since when did we do anything the usual way, Clark?"

"The lady has a point," Lex said.

"Get over here," Chloe said, pointing to the sofa. "I want some snuggling time with you both, then I want to eat dinner and then…" she blushed. "Then I want to fuck you both senseless. After that, I want to see you fuck each other. I've had fantasies about that too…" she grinned.

"Is our sweet Chloe a voyeur?" Clark asked, finally bringing his lips to hers. The kiss was welcomed and Chloe sighed into it.

"Don't know if I'm sweet, but I want to see you," she whispered before her lips were captured by Lex's from behind.

She knew, feeling both men surrounding her, that this was the start of the rest of her life, and it could only go up from here.
